Ahead of the assembly election, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Monday (August 26, 2025) laid the foundation stone of various development projects worth ₹1056.36 crore for Patna Urban (Central Area).
After laying the foundation stone and inaugurating the schemes, Mr. Kumar said that the implementation of these schemes will benefit the common people in Patna Urban and will provide better public facilities.
The CM laid the foundation stone for the construction of a 4-lane road with an underground drain on the Serpentine drain from Patel Golambar to the western end of Eco Park and from the eastern end of Eco Park to Atal Path at a cost of ₹196.80 crore.
“Due to its construction work, people will get a lot of convenience in going to the Secretariat, Rajdhani Vatika and the airport. With the construction of a four-lane road on the open drain, along with convenience in traffic, the beauty of Patna city will also increase,”Mr. Kumar said.
He then inaugurated ₹328.52 crore power modernisation and strengthening project in Patna. The project aims to overhaul and modernize the city’s electricity distribution system through extensive underground cabling, new substations, compact transformers to ensure uninterrupted and safe power supply for consumers
Energy Minister Bijendra Prasad Yadav, who presided over the event, said the initiative is part of the commitments made during the Pragati Yatra by the Chief Minister. Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary attended as the special guest, while Energy Secretary and Bihar State Power Holding Corporation Limited (BSPHCL) CMD Manoj Kumar Singh was also present.
The Energy Secretary said that the new system will reduce outages during storms and monsoons, minimize tripping and breakdown incidents, curb voltage fluctuations and enable faster restoration in case of faults.
Mr. Kumar also inaugurated the work by unveiling the foundation stone of the renovation, modernisation and strengthening the hostels of universities and colleges located in Patna city at a cost of ₹30.02 crore from the venue, Newton Hostel located at Patna Science College.
Mr. Kumar recalled his college days saying that he also used to stay in Newton Hostel and visiting again has refreshed the memories of the old days.
“I have an old attachment with this campus. The renovation of the hostels of universities and colleges will provide great convenience to the students living and studying here,“ Mr. Kumar said.
He also got photographed with the students of Newton Hostel. He advised students to live together and achieve their goals by studying well.
After this, the Bihar CM unveiled the foundation stone of Patna Haat construction work near Gandhi Maidan in Patna district at a cost of ₹48.96 crore. He also laid the foundation stone for the construction of a link road to connect the four-lane road under construction on Mandiri Nala to J.P. Gangapath at a cost of ₹52.28 crore.
The construction work of ‘J.P. Ganga Path Samagra Udyan Project (Phase-1)‘ in a length of about 7 km on the banks of the Ganga river in Patna city at a cost of ₹387.40 crore also got started.
The foundation stone of walkway from Sabhyata Dwar to Collectorate Ghat at a cost of ₹12.38 crore was also laid.
