With only nine days left for the special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, the Election Commission Wednesday said it will be sharing the details of the electors who could not be found at their addresses with the district presidents of political parties so that their status can be verified.

As per the EC’s June 24 order, all existing 7.89 crore electors of Bihar are required to fill enumeration forms by July 25 in order to be included in the draft roll to be published on August 1.

In a statement Wednesday, the EC said enumeration forms of 6.99 crore, or 88.65%, electors had been received so far, while 35.69 lakh electors or 4.5% could not be found at their addresses by Booth Level Officers (BLOs). Forms for the remaining 54.07 lakh or 6.85% were yet to be received.

Of these 35.69 lakh electors not found at their addresses, the EC said, 12.55 lakh were “probably deceased”; 17.37 lakh were “probably permanently shifted” and 5.76 lakh were identified to have been enrolled at multiple places.

“In order to re-verify the electors who have not been found at their addresses even after 3 visits of BLOs, probably deceased or permanently shifted or having enrolled at multiple places, this information will also be shared with District Presidents of political parties/1.5 Lakh Booth Level Agents appointed by them from tomorrow onwards, so that exact status of such electors can be confirmed by them before 25.07.2025,” the EC said.

Festive offer

While the BLAs (booth level agents) appointed by national and state parties are authorised to observe the process and get updates from the BLOs on the names being included and excluded during a revision, this time, the EC has decided to share the lists with the district office-bearers of the parties as well, according to EC sources.
