Biker injured in accident, Kuttanad MLA’s driver booked for negligent driving

Kottayam: The driver of Kuttanad MLA Reji Cherian was booked for negligent driving by police on Tuesday after a bike rider was injured when the MLA’s car collided with a two-wheeler near Mankombu on Monday night.Nedumudy native Suneesh, 18, suffered serious injuries in the accident and was initially admitted to the Govt Medical College Hospital before being shifted to a private hospital in Ernakulam on Tuesday. He sustained injuries to his head and leg.The accident occurred at 8.15pm near Thekkekkara junction on the Mankombu-Champakkulam road as the MLA was returning after attending the Champakkulam Moolam boat race.

Police said the bike was speeding when it hit the MLA’s vehicle. The front portion of the car was damaged and the MLA suffered minor injuries to his leg.The MLA personally arranged for an ambulance to take the injured youth to hospital before informing police. He then left the spot, asking his driver to remain at the accident site.Meanwhile, DYFI Alappuzha district secretary alleged in a Facebook post that the MLA himself was driving the car at the time of the accident, but later withdrew the post.
