Guwahati: BJP workers on Sunday held protest rallies across the state against Congress state president Gaurav Gogoi, after CM Himanta Biswa Sarma slammed the deputy leader of opposition in the Lok Sabha over his and his wife’s alleged links with Pakistan.“This is a very serious matter as it is related to national security. The revelation by the CM, based on SIT findings, has pained us. Gaurav’s activity during his 10-day visit to Pakistan is a matter of utmost national importance,” BJP state president Dilip Saikia said, before adding, “The people have sought answers from Gaurav Gogoi about his and his wife’s alleged link with Pakistan.”Saikia further said, “The protest is not only against Gaurav Gogoi, but against all those Congress workers who have been compromising with the integrity, sovereignty and security of the country.
It is the demand of the people of Assam that the home ministry should take up the case and hand it over to CBI or NIA.”Meanwhile, BJP’s state spokesperson Pranjal Kalita said the revelations have embarrassed the people of Assam, accusing Gaurav of compromising on national security by engaging in anti-national activities and betraying the trust of Indian citizens.Kalita questioned why Gaurav, before becoming an MP, had received special treatment from the Pakistan govt during his visit, and why he travelled beyond Lahore, with a restricted visa, while disconnecting his mobile connection.
“BJP has challenged Gaurav to prove allegations against him that he raised defense-related questions in the Parliament to provide information to Pakistan false. BJP has also asked Gaurav to disclose why his wife received a salary from Pakistan, while residing in India, and why her bank account their remains active,” he added.Kalita added that it was a matter of shame to see leader of the opposition in the state assembly Debabrata Saikia, Raijor Dal chief and Sivasagar MLA Akhil Gogoi and Assam Jatiya Parishad president Lurinjyoti Gogoi support Gaurav, instead of opposing his Pakistan connections.Meanwhile, All Assam Students Union (Aasu) general secretary Samiron Phukan, said Gaurav should come out and clarify everything since the allegations were serious in nature.
