R. Ashok, Leader of Opposition in the Karnataka Legislative Assembly; C.T. Ravi, BJP MLC; and Nikhil Kumaraswamy, JD(S)‘ youth president; on Saturday visited Hassan and met the families of the deceased and the ones injured in the accident that occurred when a goods vehicle ploughed into a group of people who were part of a Ganesha immersion procession on Friday.
Mr. Ashok met the families of the victims and conveyed his condolences. “It was a horrible incident. It could have been avoided if the police had taken measures to control traffic on the road,” he said.
He also opined that the State government should increase the compensation to the families of the victims.
Mr. Ravi visited the Hassan Institute Of Medical Sciences and enquired about the condition of the injured people. “A majority of the deceased are either students or very young. Their families have lost their earning members. The government should increase the compensation,” he said.
Mr. Kumaraswamy visited the hospital late at night on Friday.
