A BJP mandal president has been booked for allegedly assaulting a young woman and her mother after a late-night dispute in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh.
The incident took place on Tuesday night and left both women injured, and a video of the incident also went viral on social media.
Based on a complaint filed by the woman, police registered a case against Pulkit Tandon, a local BJP leader, who was present at the warehouse of his trading shop when the alleged assault took place.
According to the complaint, the woman, who runs a beauty parlor, said she was called to the location on the pretext of attending to a customer.
In her statement to the police, she said she received a phone call late at night from RK Namdev, whom she described as Tandon’s servant. Namdev allegedly connected her to Tandon, who told her that a customer had come for beauty parlour services and asked her to come to the warehouse.
The woman said she initially refused but later agreed and went to the spot. After reaching there, Namdev allegedly told her that the customer was inside the warehouse and asked her to enter. She claimed that once inside, she found Tandon consuming alcohol.
When she tried to leave, the woman alleged that Tandon grabbed her hand, pushed her to the ground and began slapping and assaulting her while also abusing her verbally. She said Namdev later arrived at the spot during the incident.
The complainant’s mother and brother, who had followed her to the location, intervened to stop the assault. When her brother tried to record the incident on his mobile phone, the accused allegedly smashed the device. Both the woman and her mother sustained injuries and were taken to the hospital for treatment.
The woman also alleged that there were attempts to pressure her family into not reporting the matter to the police.
