BJP's Manohar Dhakad Gets Bail For Lewd Act On Expressway, His Lawyer Says Video AI-Generated

BJP leader Manohar Lal Dhakad, who was allegedly seen on camera engaging in a lewd act with a woman on a highway, has been granted bail after he was arrested in connection with the matter.

Dhakad was allegedly caught in a sexual act on the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway near Mandsaur, Madhya Pradesh, which was caught on camera and widely shared on social media. Another video showed the two dancing on the expressway. Based on this, a case was registered, and Dhakad was arrested.

The case against Dhakad was filed under BNS sections 296 (obscene acts and songs in public places), 285 (danger or obstruction in a public way or line of navigation), and 3(5) (Collective crime) at Bhanpura police station on May 23, according to the Times of India.

Police also raided Dhakad’s residence in Bani village on the same night and seized the car seen in the CCTV footage, although the leader himself was not found at the premises. Meanwhile, authorities have yet to identify the woman seen in the videos.

After the incident created a stir, the Yuva Mahasabha organisation expelled Dhakad from the post of national general secretary. Although Dhakad is associated with the BJP, the Yuva Mahasabha claimed that he was not a member of the party and only filled out an online application form to join the BJP. Moreover, BJP district president Rajesh Dixit also clarified that Manohar Dhakad was not a primary member of the party.

‘AI-Generated Video’

After Dhakad received bail on Monday, his whereabouts remain unknown, but his lawyer, Sanjay Soni, raised doubts on the authenticity of the video, saying it was AI-generated.

“In the age of AI, cutting, trimming, and editing videos is not a big deal. The video should undergo thorough scrutiny," he was quoted as saying by Aaj Tak, adding that the video was not subject to a forensic investigation.

The video was captured on the night of May 13, in which Dhakad was seen stopping his vehicle on the Delhi-Mumbai expressway and engaging in an inappropriate act with an unknown woman near his vehicle. The Congress also targeted the BJP on the matter.

The BJP has distanced itself from the matter. The party has revealed that Dhakad had not been given any responsibility. Interestingly, Dhakad’s wife is a member of the Gram Panchayat in Mandsaur district.

Meanwhile, some reports have also surfaced alleging that Dhakad was being blackmailed by employees of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) control room over the videos, and they had allegedly extorted Rs 20,000 from him.
