BJP State unit president Nainar Nagenthran on Friday (July 10, 2026) urged the TVK-led government and Minister for Higher Education P. Viswanathan to take note of a media report, which stated that the post of principal in at least 125 of the total 181 State-run arts and science colleges was vacant.
It was a bitter truth that students did not prefer State-run colleges that lacked qualified teachers, necessary buildings, modern labs, and basic amenities, Mr. Nagenthran said. “It is an insult to the government machinery that people are preferring private educational institutions, even if the fee is higher,” he added.
The BJP leader further charged that admissions to government arts and science colleges dipped due to the lackadaisical attitude of the previous DMK regime, though admissions into government institutions were once considered an achievement and a path to a bright future.
