BJP woman files plaint against party MLA

Kolkata: A BJP senior woman’s cell functionary, president of a particular mandal, has accused a MLA from her own party and his associates of physically assaulting her during late-night clash on Sunday.

A complaint in this regard has been filed with Kolkata Police. The incident has triggered internal friction within the local unit with the MLA alleging that the entire complaint was an “art of fiction” and an attempt to “stay in news before the corporation elections.”The accused MLA has strongly denied the allegations, calling them completely baseless. Defending himself, the legislator questioned the victim’s motives, stating, “If something had really happened, why did she go to the police instead of informing the party leadership first? She wants to be in the news before the KMC polls.

I usually do not react to fake allegations. I have already communicated by stance to the top leadership.

The complainant, a lawyer, alleged that the trouble began at a community hall where party workers were dismantling decorations after a birthday event. A group of men allegedly demanded wooden and iron rods from the decorators, claiming they intended to vandalize a Trinamool Congress office. When the decorators refused, the group brutally assaulted them.

Upon receiving information, the local women’s wing leader rushed to the spot to defuse the tension and alerted the emergency police helpline. However, the arrival of the local lawmaker and his supporters allegedly escalated the violence. The complainant claimed that the legislator and his aides launched an indiscriminate attack, during which she was punched in the face and subjected to molestation in front of cops. The victim underwent preliminary medical treatment at a hospital before lodging a formal police complaint on Monday morning. Following the incident, a section of party workers staged protests, demanding the immediate arrest of the lawmaker. The victim has also written to the party’s state president seeking disciplinary action.Meanwhile, senior leadership within the party has condemned the violence, urging top brass to intervene and ensure that the dignity of the political organization is upheld. Police have initiated a probe into the multi-faction clash.
