Blood donation awareness drive sought in Dharwad Schools

Dharwad: Swami Vivekananda Blood Donation Foundation has urged the district administration to issue a circular directing schools and colleges across Dharwad district to observe World Blood Donor Day and create scientific awareness about blood donation among students.In a memorandum submitted to the deputy commissioner of Dharwad on Thursday, foundation founder Shivakumar Rattihalli and vice-president Vidyanand Sthavaramath said that today’s students are the future of India and that developing a sense of social responsibility among them is an important part of education.They noted that blood donation is a vital social responsibility and that World Blood Donor Day is observed globally on June 14 each year to raise awareness of the importance of donating blood.The foundation requested the district administration to immediately issue appropriate instructions to the heads of all schools and colleges in Dharwad district to organise awareness programmes and to educate students scientifically about blood donation as part of the observance of World Blood Donor Day.
