Blood donors given Rs 1 lakh accident insurance cover at Belagavi camp

Belagavi: A blood donation and eye donation pledge drive was organised in memory of Vachana Pitamaha Dr FG Halakatti and Linganand Swamiji of Tapovan at Vishwaguru Basava Mantapa in Mahantesh Nagar.

The programme, jointly organised by the Basava Kayaka Jeevigala Sangha and the Rashtriya Basava Dal, witnessed active public participation. A total of 132 volunteers donated blood, while doctors from Jambagi Eye Hospital conducted eye check-ups for 110 participants. Additionally, 30 individuals registered to pledge their eyes for donation. As part of the initiative, all blood donors were provided with accident insurance coverage of up to Rs 1 lakh. Former MLC Mahantesh Kavatagimath inaugurated the programme. Anil Benake, state vice- president of BJP and former MLA, lauded the organisers for extending accident insurance coverage of up to Rs 1 lakh to blood donors. He described the initiative as a model for other organisations. Shankar Gudas, leader of Basav Dal, said the camp received an encouraging response, with 132 people donating blood. He noted that four women from Bellad Bagewadi village in Hukkeri taluk were among the donors, calling it a noteworthy contribution.
