BMC suggests new deadline for Mumbai’s Mrinaltai Gore Flyover extension work

Mumbai: BMC proposed extending the timeline for the work on the extension of the Mrinaltai Gore Flyover stretch between Ram Mandir Road and Relief Road near S V Road, with the project now expected to continue until April 30, 2026.The flyover extension project was originally approved in Oct 2018 and awarded to contractor M/s MEPL-Gyan (JV) with a contract value of Rs 170.8 crore. The project was scheduled to be completed within 24 months, excluding the monsoon period, after the work order was issued in Nov 2018.Although the contractor was asked to begin work from Dec 5, 2018, the project commenced only on March 22, 2019, after obtaining the required no-objection certificate from the traffic department, civic officials said.

Subsequently, due to site difficulties, the scope of work and the need to expedite construction, the proposal was modified through an administrative resolution in March 2023. Following the revision, the project cost increased to Rs 194.3 crore, and the deadline was extended to April 24, 2024.According to the civic administration, the flyover extension work is currently about 80% complete. Based on the calculation of working and non-working days, the BMC now proposes extending the revised completion timeline until April 30, 2026, to enable the remaining work to be finished. The project aims to ease traffic congestion along the busy Goregaon corridor, particularly the stretch connecting Ram Mandir Road, Relief Road and S V Road, which witnesses heavy vehicular movement daily.
