The bodies of two Maoists have been recovered after an encounter with security forces in the southern area of Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur district on Thursday.

Security personnel also seized an AK-47 rifle, a 9 mm pistol, along with other weapons and ammunition from the spot.

The encounter took place after a search operation was launched based on specific inputs about the presence of armed Maoists in the area. Teams of the District Reserve Guard (DRG) were conducting the operation in the South Bastar region when they came under fire.

Officials said the exchange of fire between the DRG and Maoists began around 7 AM and continued intermittently. During the search, the bodies of two Maoists were recovered from the encounter site.

As the operation is still underway, officials said details such as the exact location of the encounter, the number of security personnel involved, and other sensitive information cannot be shared at this stage to ensure the safety of the troops on the ground.
