Mapusa: What started as a dispute over sharing of a chicken dish escalated into a brutal murder, leaving a daily wage worker from Assam dead and his friend behind bars.Mapusa police on Friday arrested Sawangkhoba Singh, 43, a native of Assam, for allegedly killing his fellow worker at Bodgini, Mapusa.
The identity of the victim has not been disclosed yet.Last Saturday, police found the body of a man with facial injuries and a severed ear. Mapusa PI Naveen Desai, suspecting that the unidentified man was murdered, began investigation.Desai said they managed to track the suspect to Morod, Mapusa, but he tried to flee when he got a whiff that the police were looking for him. “We managed to arrest Singh after a chase,” Desai added.He said that Singh and the victim worked together as daily wage labourers.“On the night of the incident, the two, in a drunken state, argued over unequal sharing of a chicken dish. The brawl turned violent, leading to Singh allegedly murdering his friend and severing his ear in the process,” the Mapusa PI told reporters.Singh has been booked under provisions of the BNS .
