Keonjhar: The body of a newborn baby girl was found in a women’s toilet of the Anandapur Sub-Divisional Hospital in Keonjhar district on Sunday, sending shockwaves.Sources said at 9 am on Sunday, a woman, who entered the toilet, reportedly discovered the body.
She immediately reported to the hospital authorities. Receiving information from officials, Ghasipura police reached the spot and recovered the body.Police are investigating the incident after registering a unnatural death case. The baby’s body was sent for post-mortem. Blood samples and other necessary biological samples were collected in the presence of a magistrate and preserved for DNA testing. Superintendent of the hospital Dr Krishna Chandra Das said the police had been informed and CCTV footage was examined as part of the investigation.According to some attendants of patients admitted in the women's ward, anunidentified woman was seen entering the area around 5:00 AM and leavinghurriedly after a short time.SDPO Kamal Lochan Panda said the actual facts of the case would become clear after the examination of the CCTV footage, DNA analysis and other forensic reports.The incident has raised serious concerns regarding the security lapse and healthcare management of a govt hospital. Hence, local residents have demanded an impartial investigation into the matter. They have demanded that people responsible be identified and brought to justice, and that hospital security measures be tightened to prevent recurrences.
