Ghaziabad: The body of a 21-year-old man who jumped into the Ganga canal in Dankaur was recovered near Banjarpur village, around 20 kilometres downstream, on Monday after a three-day search by NDRF and police teams.Neeraj, a resident of Mandi Shyam Nagar who married earlier this year, left home late on Friday night after an argument with family members. His mother, Sudha, asked him to warm up food, triggering a heated exchange after which he walked out. Sudha followed him in an attempt to stop him, but Neeraj reached the Ganga Canal bridge, about a kilometre from their home, and jumped before anyone could intervene. The family immediately alerted police.NDRF teams, led by team in charge Pradeep Kumar Chaubey, launched a search operation with divers scanning several kilometres of the canal over the following three days. On Monday afternoon, a body was spotted floating near Banjarpur village. It was later identified as Neeraj.SHO Dankaur Manoj Kumar said the body was sent for autopsy after completion of legal formalities. Preliminary investigations suggest Neeraj took the extreme step following the family dispute.Neeraj is survived by his wife, his parents and a younger brother.
