Meerut: A seven-year-old boy died after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs, sparking renewed concerns among villagers over the growing canine menace in the area.The incident took place in Kundo Ki Mandiyan village in Rampur on Wednesday evening.
Villagers said Shivam, 7, was accompanying his mother to a farm, when a pack of over 10 strays attacked the child.Hearing his mother’s cries for help, villagers working in nearby fields rushed to the spot with sticks. Shivam was taken to a local hospital in a critical condition and from there to a medical centre in Moradabad, where he died.Villagers added that they have been urging the district administration to take immediate steps to find long-term measures to prevent such incidents.Notably, Rampur has witnessed a series of fatal attacks in the recent past. On June 21, 2023, a pack of dogs attacked two children at Milak Bichola village, killing one and injuring the other. In 2025, a four-year-old boy was mauled to death in the same district, while three children were killed in separate attacks the same year.On May 24 this year, a six-year-old boy was critically injured after being attacked by six strays in the district’s Gangapur village.(With inputs from Asif Ansari in Bareilly)
