Patna: Police on Wednesday claimed to have solved the murder case of a 21-year-old diploma student, whose body was found in a rented room in Raghopur village under Bihta police station area of Patna district late on April 13 night.Police said the murder accused, the girl’s boyfriend, strangled her as she was pressuring him to marry. The boyfriend has been arrested and he confessed to committing the crime, they said.The girl and the accused were final-year students at Netaji Subhas Institute of Technology, Bihta, police said.Cops said the deceased was identified as Anupama Kumari, a native of Aurangabad. She had been living in a rented house in Raghopur village under Bihta police station area for the past two years.
The accused has been identified as Atharva Shrivastav alias Raj, from Buxar.City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh said, “Anupama and Atharva were in a relationship for several months. Frequent disputes had strained their relationship. Anupama was pressuring Atharva to marry her, which he resisted. Another argument broke out over photographs taken during the two-day event at the college held two days before the murder.”
On April 12, Atharva called Anupama around noon on the pretext of giving her a laptop and reached her room. An argument escalated into a physical fight. He strangled her, locked the room from outside and fled. Anupama’s body was found on her bed on April 13 night.“A Special Investigation Team, comprising Danapur DSP-II, Bihta SHO and a technical team, was formed to probe the case. An FSL team examined the crime spot and the body was sent for postmortem. Preliminary findings confirmed death by strangulation. The medical report will confirm if there was a sexual assault. Atharva was arrested and he admitted to committing the crime,” the City SP added.
