Brahmagiri meat plant to go under hammer

Kozhikode: In a significant development in the Brahmagiri Development Society deposit refund case, the Sulthan Bathery sub-court has ordered the public auction of the society’s meat processing plant and the land attached to it to facilitate repayment of dues to two investors. The order comes after the society’s failure to comply with an earlier court directive to refund deposits and promised returns. The meat processing plant at Manjadi in Nenmeni, Wayanad, is scheduled to be auctioned on July 8.The court acted on petitions filed by Meenangadi residents Mariyamma Joseph and Joby K Mathew, who had invested Rs 50 lakh and Rs 22 lakh, respectively, in the society several years ago.In 2024, the court had directed the society to repay the investors their deposits, along with the promised returns and litigation costs. However, the order was not complied with, prompting the petitioners to seek further legal recourse. The latest order has raised hopes among hundreds of other investors awaiting repayment of deposits from the CPM-backed society.
