Former two-time UFC flyweight champion Brandon Moreno was taken to a local hospital after losing a unanimous decision to rising prospect Lone’er Kavanagh in the main event of UFC Mexico City.

The fight took place on Saturday night at Arena CDMX. Reports confirmed that Moreno’s hospital visit was only for precautionary reasons. There is no confirmation of any serious injury at this time.Moreno went through five hard rounds against Kavanagh. He absorbed heavy damage, especially in the second round when Kavanagh landed a strong combination that visibly hurt him. Despite being rocked, Moreno showed his well-known toughness and survived until the final bell.

However, he looked badly bruised and exhausted at the end of the 25-minute contest.

The loss drops Brandon Moreno’s professional record to 23-10-2. It is the third time in his UFC career that he has suffered back-to-back defeats. He is now 2-4 in his last six fights. Before this event, Moreno suffered the first stoppage loss of his career against title contender Tatsuro Taira. That defeat raised questions about the durability that once defined his championship run.

At 32 years old, Moreno is still ranked among the top flyweights. However, he is no longer in immediate title contention. In late 2025, he admitted he had considered retirement after losing in Mexico City to Brandon Royval. That loss was emotionally difficult for the former champion. As of now, no official statement has been released regarding Moreno’s condition following the hospital visit.Meanwhile, Kavanagh completed a stunning turnaround in just six months.

In August, he suffered the first loss of his career when he was stopped by Charles Johnson. Some critics even labeled him as exposed after that defeat. However, the 26-year-old English striker bounced back strongly. Fighting in his first UFC main event and accepting the bout on less than a month’s notice, Kavanagh looked calm and confident. He used sharp leg and body kicks early in the fight. In the second round, he hurt Moreno with a clean punching combination.Although Moreno used wrestling in the later rounds to control parts of the fight, he did not land enough damaging strikes. Kavanagh maintained steady pressure throughout the contest and earned a unanimous decision victory. The win could move him into the flyweight top 10 rankings.
