Hong Kong actor Isabella Wei, who plays Posy Li in Bridgerton, reveals that she initially auditioned for the lead character Sophie Baek, a role that eventually went to Australian actress Yerin Ha.In a conversation with Mumbai Mirror, she said, “We all auditioned for Sophie. I think everyone auditioned for Sophie first, and then they found the other characters from there. But I loved Posy. When I first got the briefing for Posy, I think she was described as very plain and kind, or maybe simple. And when I read the script, I found her very funny, sweet and whimsical. So, after auditioning for Posy, I really wanted to play her.
And I’m so grateful I got a chance. She’s one of my favourite characters that I haveever played.”Opening up about her expectations from Netflix’s series, Wei admits she walked in with little idea of what lay ahead. “When I first booked Bridgerton, I had no idea what to expect. I think as we started filming, all of the nerves and all of the anticipation kind of went away because then we were in it and we met everyone and became friends.
It became more about life and working together instead of the fact that Bridgerton was this amazing, incredible, high-profile show,” she added. The Black Dove actress also stated, “Definitely right before the release, I was feeling quite nervous in the sense that I didn’t know what was going to happen. Yes, it gets a lot of social attention, but there’s also the consideration that it doesn’t—people might not like the season or your character. There’s a lot of thought behind it. But seeing the reactions now, I’ve been really happy with everything and it’s one of my favourite seasons.
So the day it was released, a lot of my anticipation went away because I was like, well, there’s no more wondering. We just have to watch and see what will happen.”
