Arthur Fery produced the biggest win of his career on Monday, battling past former world No. 3 Grigor Dimitrov in a gripping five-set contest to book his place in the Wimbledon quarter-finals, while Jasmine Paolini brought Alexandra Eala’s remarkable breakthrough run to an end.

Playing on Centre Court for the first time, the British wildcard fed off a raucous home crowd to defeat Dimitrov 7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6 (10/7) in another marathon, continuing a dream campaign at the All England Club.

“First time on this court, five sets against an absolute legend of the game," Fery said.

“I grew up five minutes from here, coming to watch matches on this court. It’s unbelievable."

The 23-year-old, ranked No. 114 in the world, becomes the lowest-ranked man to reach the Wimbledon quarter-finals since Nick Kyrgios in 2014 and is guaranteed to break into the ATP top 100 for the first time. After surviving the tournament’s longest match against Zizou Bergs in the third round, Fery now faces ninth seed Flavio Cobolli as he bids to become only the fifth British man to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals in the Open era.

For Dimitrov, it was another painful Wimbledon exit after last year’s injury-enforced retirement while leading eventual champion Jannik Sinner by two sets in the fourth round.

“Leaving the court with a loss again, it’s not so happy," Dimitrov admitted. “But I’m going to choose to see it as a happy moment."

Cobolli eased into a second successive Wimbledon quarter-final with a straight-sets victory over fifth seed Alex de Minaur, while Taylor Fritz dispatched Alexander Bublik to reach the last eight for the fourth time in five years.

French Open champion Alexander Zverev was also closing in on a maiden Wimbledon quarter-final, leading Jiri Lehecka 6-4, 7-5, 3-3 when play was suspended because of the tournament’s 10 p.m. local curfew.

In the women’s draw, Paolini overcame spirited resistance from 21-year-old Eala to win 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 and reach her first Grand Slam quarter-final since finishing runner-up at Wimbledon in 2024.

“After the first set in the first round I was like, ‘Okay, it can only go better’," Paolini said. “Point by point, game by game, I was feeling better."

Although Eala’s run ended, the Filipina made history by becoming the first player from her country to reach both the third and fourth rounds of a Grand Slam in the Open era.
