The Brooklyn community is reeling after the gruesome discovery of Michelle Montgomery, a 39-year-old mother of four, whose dismembered remains were found inside a plastic bag in the trash compactor at the Borinquen Houses in Bushwick on Sunday morning.Montgomery, a devoted mother and Amazon overnight worker, was last seen leaving her home on Saturday night in high spirits, according to her husband, Anthony Echevarria. "She left this house vibrant, happy and alive," he told reporters, describing a seemingly normal evening out.Family members said she had gone out with friends and posted a TikTok video just after midnight, showing her dancing and enjoying herself.
Her sister, Serenity Montgomery, recalled receiving a brief FaceTime call from Michelle on Saturday night, which lasted only a second, leaving her unsure if the call was intentional.By 9:30 a.m. on Sunday, Montgomery’s life had been violently cut short. Her decapitated body was found in the compactor room of the public housing complex. Authorities have not made any arrests, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is still determining the exact cause and manner of her death.
Echevarria, struggling to process the tragedy, described the emotional toll on their children, ages 19, 12, 11, and 10 months. "I don’t even think they believe this is really happening," he said. He is now pleading for anyone who might know who she was with that night to come forward. "Find out what really happened. That could be the biggest help to bring the dude that chopped up my wife to justice," he said.Neighbors expressed shock over the incident. "Oh my God, who could do something like that to another person?" said Celeste Turner, a long-time resident. Those who knew Montgomery remember her as vibrant, loving, and hardworking. "She was phenomenal. She did everything for her kids," Echevarria said.As Brooklyn mourns, the search for answers continues. Echevarria promised, "We will get justice. I promise that."
