HYDERABAD
A delegation of Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) women leaders, including former Minister Satyavati Rathod, former MLA Gongidi Sunitha and former Zilla Parishad Chairperson Tula Uma, met Director General of Police (DGP) C.V. Anand on Wednesday, seeking action against Bandi Bageerath in the POCSO case.
They urged the DGP to ensure immediate arrest of the accused, protection to the victim and her family, preservation of electronic evidence, and action against officials responsible for lapses in the investigation.
The leaders submitted a memorandum listing seven demands, including the immediate arrest of Bandi Bageerath, named as the accused in a POCSO case registered at the Pet Basheerabad police station.
In the complaint, the BRS alleged that the case involved serious offences against a minor girl and raised concerns over alleged police inaction, dilution of charges and failure to preserve electronic evidence. The memorandum stated that the victim’s mother had lodged a complaint on May 8, detailing allegations of sexual harassment, coercion and digital exploitation.
The delegation also alleged that the police had invoked lesser provisions under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, instead of applying more stringent sections. It further claimed that certain names were omitted from the FIR.
