BSPCB allows small units to use alternative fuels for 1 month

Patna: Bihar State Pollution Control Board (BSPCB) on Friday issued an advisory allowing smaller units, especially in the hospitality and restaurant sectors, to use alternative fuels for one month. The temporary advisory has been issued in view of the reported energy supply disruptions due to the West Asia conflict. The purpose of the advisory is to ease pressure on PNG (piped natural gas) and LPG (liquefied petroleum gas) supply chains and ensure continuity of operations for smaller commercial users while prioritising domestic LPG for households.BSPCB chairman D K Shukla said the use of biomass, RDF pellets, coal and kerosene has been permitted for a temporary period of one month.

Additional kerosene is being released to state govts, and state-run coal companies have been directed to increase supply to small and medium consumers. He added that the union ministry of environment, forest and climate change (MoEFCC) has advised state pollution control boards to permit the use of these fuels, though local environmental guidelines regarding their usage should still be observed wherever possible.
