Kochi: A tragedy was averted after a two-storey building slanted onto a side when workers were attempting to raise its foundation using a hydraulic jack on Tuesday evening.The incident occurred metres away from MG Road near Jos Junction. It is suspected that the foundation slipped while attempting to raise it as part of renovation works.
The building was to be lifted by about four feet to raise its foundation and prevent flooding on the ground floor during the monsoon.After the mishap, the building leaned against the adjacent structure. The foundation of the building sustained damage in the incident although no one was injured. The adjacent building, a commercial tower, hosts private establishments.
