MEERUT: The bodies of two Delhi men -- Mohd Faiz, 28, and Fardeen Siddiqui, 26 -- who drowned while bathing in the Walipura canal in Bulandshahr on Tuesday evening were recovered by the NDRF teams on Wednesday morning around 400 m away from the spot where they went missing.City CO Rijul, the two were identified through their Aadhaar cards and driving licences found at the site. "The incident happened when the two were taking a dip in the canal to cool off. Faiz was swept away by the strong current, and when Fardeen tried to rescue him, he too was caught in the current." Police said the duo were returning from Khurja after purchasing pigeons when they decided to take a bath. They were residents of Ballimaran in Delhi.

Postmortem examination was conducted on Wednesday afternoon, following which the bodies were handed over to the families. Police said no formal complaint has been filed by their families so far in the matter.
