Atish Chandra, who is currently Additional Secretary, PMO, has been elevated as Special Secretary, PMO
The Centre on Friday transferred secretaries of mines, water resources, animal husbandry and skill development departments as part of a top-level bureaucratic reshuffle.
According to the order issued by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet, Animal Husbandry Secretary Alka Upadhyaya has been shifted as Secretary, National Commission for Minorities. Additional Secretary, Ministry of Environment, Naresh Pal Gangwar will replace Upadhyaya.
Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation will become Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development& Entrepreneurship. She will replace Rajit Punhani, who will become the CEO of FSSAI.
V L Kantha Rao, a 1992-batch Madhya Pradesh-cadre IAS officer, who is presently posted as Mines Secretary, has been transferred as Secretary, Department of Water Resources under Ministry of Jal Shakti. Nagaland-cadre IAS officer Piyush Goyal will replace Rao.
Ranjana Chopra, a 1994-batch Odisha-cadre IAS officer, will be the new Tribal Affairs Secretary, after present Secretary Vibhu Nayar’s superannuation on October 31. Haryana-cadre IAS officer Sukriti Likhi, who is currently Chairperson, National Authority Chemical Weapons Convention, has been appointed as OSD in Department of Ex-Servicemen Welfare, Ministry of Defence. She will take over as Secretary after superannuation of present Secretary Niten Chandra on October 31.

Sanjay Garg, a 1994-batch Kerala-cadre IAS officer, currently Additional Secretary, Department of Agricultural Research and Education, will be new Director General of BIS after the current officer Pramod Kumar Tiwari, demits office on October 31.
