Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty progressed to the pre-quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships on Wednesday.

The Indian men’s doubles pair displayed a strong performance to overcome Chinese Taipei’s Yang Po Han and Liu Kuang Heng with scores of 22-20, 21-13.

How Satwik-Chirag Won?

In men’s doubles, Satwik and Chirag demonstrated their signature attacking prowess, delivering powerful smashes from the backcourt.

The Indians made several service errors and occasionally lost the attack. Their opponents were equally competitive, especially in the initial phase of the opening game, with both pairs moving neck and neck until the break.

Upon resumption, the Indian duo tightened their game and gradually gained a four-point lead at 20-16.

However, the Taipei duo scored four consecutive points, including Yang Po Han’s impressive behind-the-back shot that barely crossed the net, levelling the contest at 20-all.

Chirag then executed a steep downward return, securing another game point for the Indians, and they successfully converted it to win the opener 22-20.

After changing ends, the Indians took a 6-3 lead, but Liu and Yang kept challenging them. Satwik and Chirag managed a two-point cushion at the break.

Following a motivational talk from coach Tan Kim Her during the interval, the Indians won a series of quick points, extending their lead to 16-10. From there, it was all India as Satwik and Chirag earned seven match points after a crucial referral and quickly converted to seal the match.

Meanwhile, in the mixed doubles event, Dhruv Kapila and Tanisha Castro defeated Joshua Magee and Moya Ryan from Ireland. The Indian duo barely broke a sweat, wrapping up the contest with a 21-11, 21-16 victory in 35 minutes. They dominated the opening game and quickly built a 12-8 lead in the second.

The Indian pair faced a scare when Kapila tumbled and appeared in pain while clutching his knee. He returned to the court without showing any signs of distress as they advanced to the Round of 16 with a straight-sets victory.
