Silchar: Cachar witnessed heart-wrenching scenes on Tuesday as the bodies of Manojit Mal (24) and Rahul Tanti (30) — victims of the devastating nightclub fire in Goa — arrived in their hometowns.
Cachar SP Partha Pratim Das was present at Silchar airport to receive the bodies, offering floral tributes and personally handing them over to the grieving families.In Dharamkhal of Silcoorie, the arrival of Manojit's coffin plunged the neighbourhood into mourning. Family members, unable to accept the loss of their sole breadwinner, clung to the coffin, their cries echoing through the narrow lanes. Manojit had returned to Goa five months ago to work as a kitchen attendant, supporting his family and recently managing his sister’s wedding.A similar scene unfolded in Kathal Grant on the outskirts of Silchar, where Rahul Tanti’s body was brought home. Neighbours and relatives gathered in large numbers, many overcome with grief as the coffin was carried inside. Rahul, also the sole earning member of his family, had been working in Goa to secure a better future for his loved ones.The tragedy has left the community in shock, with two families facing an uncertain future. The fire, which claimed 25 lives, has deeply affected Cachar, as it mourns the loss of two young residents.
