Caitlin Clark is probable to return Wednesday night against the Los Angeles Sparks after missing the Indiana Fever's last two games with a back injury, though she does not expect to play both halves of Thursday's back-to-back in Phoenix.

The three-time All-Star has been sidelined since aggravating the issue during a June 24 loss to the Mercury, a game that also saw Phoenix forward Alyssa Thomas suspended one game for making contact with Clark's throat.Clark's potential return matters immediately for a Fever team that has gone 2-0 without her, including Sunday's 84-68 win over Las Vegas, and now sits at 12-8 on the season.

Clark practiced with the Fever on Tuesday in Los Angeles and told reporters afterward she felt encouraged heading into Wednesday's game.

She said she's "very hopeful for tomorrow" but acknowledged playing both games of the back-to-back would be difficult given she's still working her way back into game shape. If cleared, she expects to play under a minutes restriction, hoping for slightly more than 20 minutes in her first appearance in over a week.

Will Caitlin Clark play against Los Angeles Sparks?

Head coach Stephanie White has deferred to the team's medical staff on Clark's final clearance, stressing that her long-term health outweighs any short-term rotation need.

White said the team's approach adjusts based on matchups and how Indiana is playing overall, but the bottom line remains simple: if she's ready, she'll play. The added context matters here, since Clark appeared in only 13 of 44 games during an injury-plagued 2025 season, making the Fever cautious by design rather than by circumstance.

Indiana Fever's current roster outlook

Even without Clark, the Fever have found scoring elsewhere. Kelsey Mitchell has averaged more than 20 points a game as the primary offensive option in Clark's absence, while Aliyah Boston has continued developing a perimeter shot to complement her rebounding. Indiana's depth has been enough to win three of its last four games overall. Clark, when healthy, remains the engine of the offense, averaging 21.2 points, 4.0 rebounds and 8.2 assists this season, numbers that rank third in scoring and second in assists leaguewide."First and foremost, they're great culture players, great culture teammates, they're going to be ready when their number is called," White said after keeping VanSlooten and Dantas in the roster. She continued, “Grace is a young player who I think can really develop into a solid four in this league, DD is a veteran who understands how to stay ready so she doesn't have to get ready, who we can play in certain lineups and certain matchups, who are going to give us great minutes in practice as well, and who are going to help continue to elevate and build and pour into our culture."White said the purpose of development roster spots is to help players grow while preparing them for bigger opportunities. She explained that although it can be difficult to see players leave once they earn standard contracts elsewhere, that is ultimately the goal of the system. According to White, those spots exist to keep players ready so they can take advantage of opportunities when they arise.
