Caitlin Clark’s boyfriend, Connor McCaffery, shared a heartbreaking message on Instagram after his grandmother, Marit Smaby-Nowlin, died at Lake Vermilion in Minnesota. She was 80 years old.
Wednesday evening, around 6 p.m., family members discovered her unconscious in the water; emergency crews hurried to help; she was then transported to Cook Hospital, where she died. McCaffery uploaded a photo from his youth with his grandmother on Saturday night and said he lacked the proper words to express what she meant to the family.

In a post, Connor McCaffery, Butler University's assistant basketball coach, expressed his sorrow.
He penned, "I am having trouble determining what to say." Describing how much you meant to our whole family is impossible. I decline to say farewell; hence, until we meet again. Young Connor sat with his grandma in the photograph; this memory he chose to share openly.
Not long after, Indiana Fever great Caitlin Clark answered the post with prayer and scarlet heart emojis. Since April 2023, when Caitlyn Clark was still enrolled at Iowa, Clark and McCaffery have been dating.
Her comment showed muted solace during the terrible family scene; she has been supportive of him both on and off the court.

Marit Smaby-Nowlin resided with her husband, Forrest Nowlin, in Saint Paul. Her family cherished her dearly; she had four daughters.
