Dwaipayan.GhoshKolkata: A Calcutta HC judge, Justice Ajoy Kumar Mukherjee, his official driver and personal security guard allegedly faced abusive language and threats in an incident of road rage while the judge was returning home at night, triggering a major security scare in the Behala Chowrasta area.The incident took place near the busy Behala Chowrasta on Sunday. A case was registered on Monday and an investigation launched, with police initiating a manhunt to trace the accused biker, who was later found to be a resident of the Purba Jadavpur area.According to police sources, the incident occurred around 9.45 pm. While negotiating the congested intersection, the judge’s driver switched on the windshield wipers to clear the glass.
A few drops of water allegedly splashed onto the passing motorcyclist.This allegedly triggered an aggressive reaction from the motorcyclist. He sped ahead, blocked the path of the judge’s car, forcing the vehicle to stop. According to the PSO, the biker then engaged in a heated altercation and used abusive language against both the driver and the occupants of the vehicle.Despite immediate attempts by the security staff to defuse the situation, the rider allegedly continued creating a public disturbance at the busy intersection.
Security officials treated the incident as a serious breach given that it involved a high court judge.Following the incident, PSO Sudipto Gargari lodged a formal complaint, based on which a case was registered at Parnasree PS under BNS sections 126(2) (wrongful restraint) and 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace).Investigators have examined CCTV footage from the Behala Chowrasta to reconstruct the sequence of events. A senior police officer said the biker has been identified through the vehicle’s registration details and teams are trying to apprehend him for legal action.The police said they will be relying on technology to pre-empt the ever rising cases of road rages in the city.
