Call of Duty: Warzone maker Raven Software has responded to player concerns around matchmaking in the newly introduced Black Ops Royale mode. The response comes particularly after players complained about the availability of only Quads-based squads.
Before making further changes, the studio said that the current setup aims to understand player feedback on the mode's core experience. In a post shared on the microblogging site X (formerly Twitter), the developers wrote, “We’ve seen quite a few questions about squad sizes in Black Ops Royale. Because this is such a fresh experience, and with many possible directions we could take, we chose to launch with a single mode based on the squad size that has proven to be the most popular across all of our other modes. For now, our focus is on understanding how players feel about the core experience. We've heard the feedback and will continue the dialogue."Call of Duty: Warzone players on X responded to the update, with several saying more matchmaking options should be introduced. One user wrote, “There should always be every option available to everyone. Solos, duos, trios, and quads. For regular BR or Black Ops Royale. At all times. How has this not been learned by now?’”“SOLOS would be an incredible experience. Everyone wants it, hopefully it gets added soon,” another user added.
What is Call of Duty Warzone’s Black Ops Royale Mode
For those unfamiliar, Black Ops Royale is a battle royale mode in Call of Duty: Warzone, inspired by Call of Duty: Black Ops 4’s Blackout mode. In this mode, players can compete against other squads while collecting weapons, equipment and resources across the map until only one team remains. The mode differs from Warzone by removing several core features, including custom loadouts, the Gulag and buy stations.Apart from this, Activision has confirmed that Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile will have its servers shut down on April 17, 2026.
