Madhubani : The district administration in Madhubani will launch a mass drug administration (MDA) campaign against filaria from Tuesday. Civil surgeon Harendra Kumar said under the programme, anti-filaria medicines will be administered to eligible residents across the district to prevent the spread of the disease.He also said a mega MDA camp will be organised on Feb 11, during which special efforts will be made to ensure maximum drug coverage. Health workers, ASHAs, ANMs and other field staff will visit households and designated centres to administer the prescribed medicines and monitor compliance.The campaign is part of the National Filaria Elimination Programme, aimed at eradicating lymphatic filariasis by providing preventive medication to the entire at-risk population, except children below the prescribed age, pregnant women and seriously ill patients.Additional chief medical officer S N Jha said that a population of over 1,35,848, spread over 45 wards of the municipal corporation, will be covered under the scheme.Health department officials have appealed to residents to cooperate with healthcare workers and consume the medicines as advised, stressing that the drugs are safe and effective. Awareness activities are also being conducted to address misconceptions and encourage full participation in the campaign.
