Alcaraz gushed over Federer's stylish golf skills after playing together at the Australian Open, admitting the Swiss already outplays him despite only two years in the sport.

Roger Federer’s silky smooth tennis swooped many off their feet for decades on end. But Carlos Alcaraz has revealed that the Swiss legend can do the same — on the golf course too.

The Spanish star revealed that he recently teed it up with the Swiss legend during the Australian Open, and discovered that Federer’s smoothness doesn’t stop at a one-handed backhand.

“It’s as beautiful as his tennis," Alcaraz said after beating Yannick Hanfmann to reach the third round. “I’m not surprised. Everything he does, he does in style. On the golf course, it’s a really beautiful swing. He plays really good."

That post-match interview quickly turned from tennis talk into a love letter to Federer’s all-around elegance — and a little self-inflicted pain.

Despite Alcaraz being a committed golfer for around five years, Federer, who only picked up the sport seriously after retiring in 2022, already has bragging rights.

“I think he’s been playing for two years now and his level is really good," Alcaraz admitted. “I’ve been playing five, and he’s already beating me. It hurts."

Golf has become Alcaraz’s go-to escape during the grind of Grand Slam tournaments. During his title run at last year’s US Open, he even celebrated big wins with cheeky golf-swing celebrations, making no secret of how much the sport relaxes him.

And with Federer now part of his Melbourne routine, Alcaraz isn’t shelving the clubs anytime soon, even with a shot at history looming. The 21-year-old faces France’s Corentin Moutet next as he continues his bid to become the youngest man to complete the career Grand Slam.

“We can always find time," Alcaraz said with a grin. “We’re trying to make the most of the day. I’ll probably practice a little because I want to be better in the next round — but the golf courses are waiting for me."
