The police have registered a case against 15 activists of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] for allegedly barging into the Peringome police station and attacking the inspector and other police personnel in protest against the arrest of a party worker accused in an attempt-to-murder case.
The alleged incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on Tuesday when a group of CPI(M) workers reportedly stormed the station seeking the release of C.V. Vishnuprasad, 28, a resident of Peralam, Kozhummal. According to the police, the group manhandled the inspector, grabbed his uniform, and verbally abused police personnel, leading to a confrontation inside the station.
A case has been registered against Siddin, Nidhin, Radakrishnan, Manish, and Vishnuprasad, along with 10 other identifiable activists.
The police said Vishnuprasad was one of the accused in the alleged assault on Muslim Youth League leader Shajir Iqbal, who had staged a protest against Health Minister Veena Goerge on February 25. Vishnuprasad was arrested from his house on Tuesday evening.
