Caught On Cam: Bengal Shop Owner Assaulted With Iron Rods As Robbers Flee With Rs 1 Lakh

Hardware shop owner was critically injured after being assaulted with iron rods and robbed of over Rs 1 lakh in North 24 Parganas, police are investigating the attack.

A hardware shop owner was allegedly assaulted with iron rods and robbed of more than Rs 1 lakh by a group of miscreants in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on Friday, leaving him critically injured.

The victim, identified as Bijoy Das, was attending to customers at his hardware store at Taki Chowrangi under the jurisdiction of Hasnabad Police Station when the incident took place.

Assuault Captured on CCTV

The incident took place at around 10.13 am. The brutal assault was captured on CCTV. In the footage, a group of men can be seen attacking the shop owner. The victim was thrashed for over a minute, the footage showed.

According to family members, a group of men suddenly entered the shop and allegedly attacked Das. They first assaulted him physically and then repeatedly struck him with iron rods. After he collapsed, the accused allegedly looted over Rs 1 lakh kept in the cash box before fleeing from the spot.

Das was initially rushed to Taki Rural Hospital for treatment. Owing to the severity of his injuries, he was later shifted to Basirhat District Hospital, where his condition was stated to be critical.

The victim’s family has lodged a complaint with the Hasnabad Police Station and demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the attack. They have also sought strict legal action against the accused.

The reason behind the assault is not know yet. So far, police have not made any arrests. Police are investigating the incident and efforts are underway to identify and trace the assailants.
