Authorities released fresh details of the arrest of filmmaker Rob Reiner’s son Nick Reiner, capturing the tense moments when he was handcuffed and taken into custody just hours after he was accused of fatally stabbing his parents at their Los Angeles home.

Footage and photographs shared by law enforcement show the 32-year-old suspect being detained near a Metro station, roughly 15 miles from the Reiner family’s Brentwood residence. In the images, Nick Reiner- his face blurred- is seen being forced to the ground by officers, his hands cuffed behind his back. Another photograph shows police pinning him against the front of a squad car as the arrest was completed.

Nick Reiner was apprehended on suspicion of murdering his father, acclaimed director Rob Reiner and his mother Michele Singer Reiner, who were found stabbed to death inside their home. Following his arrest, he was formally booked and is currently being held without bail at the Twin Towers Correctional Facility in Los Angeles.

Investigators are now examining events leading up to the killings. According to media reports, the family was involved in a heated argument at Conan O’Brien’s Christmas party on Saturday night, just hours before the attack. Friends and neighbours have suggested the dispute may have centred on Nick Reiner’s refusal to enter another drug rehabilitation programme after multiple previous attempts.

Reports indicate that Nick Reiner has a documented history of substance abuse and mental health struggles. His younger sister, Romy Reiner- who reportedly discovered the bodies- told investigators that her brother “should be a suspect" and described him as dangerous. Neighbours and family acquaintances have also alleged past incidents of violent behaviour linked to drug use.
