A Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) bus rammed into a bus stand at Talapady on the Karnataka–Kerala border on Thursday, killing five people and injuring at least seven others.
The bus reportedly suffered a brake failure, causing the driver to lose control before crashing into the shelter.
Four members of the same family, three women and one man, died on the spot. A child also lost his life in the accident. Some passengers sitting inside an autorickshaw parked near the shelter were among those injured.
The seven injured victims have been admitted to a nearby hospital with serious injuries. Authorities are investigating the incident.
In another incident from July in Mysuru, a 71-year-old man was run over by a KSRTC bus in the Srirampura area.
