A 26-year-old woman working as a receptionist at a private clinic in Maharashtra’s Thane was allegedly assaulted by a man after she denied him entry into a doctor's chamber without an appointment, police said on Tuesday.
"Based on the victim's complaint, we have registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita for assault, using obscene language and outraging the modesty of a woman," a police official said.
The incident happened when the doctor was in a meeting with a representative and had instructed Sonali to not allow anyone inside.
Gopal Jha, who was allegedly intoxicated, attempted to enter the doctor’s cabin. When Sonali stopped him, he violently kicked the receptionist and dragged her by her hair across the reception area of the private clinic, Shri Bal Chikitsalaya.
She was eventually rescued by the staff of the clinic and relatives of other patients. The incident was recorded on CCTV.
Sonali filed a complaint at the Manpada Police Station and a case was registered against Gopal Jha. The police are searching for him but he remains at large.
Maharashtra Navnirman Sena members also protested at the Manpada Police Station, demanding the arrest of the accused.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Suhas Hemade said, “We have filed a case based on the victim’s statement. We are searching for the accused, and details will emerge after his arrest.”
