Kochi: Students in city schools reported noticeable changes in CBSE Class XII revaluation results, with several securing improved grades as the revised scores continue to be published. However, school officials said while a majority of students hoped for better marks in physics, the subject did not witness any significant increase in scores.
According to office-bearers of Kochi Metro Sahodaya, which has nearly 40 schools offering higher secondary education, students recorded better marks mainly in subjects such as English and mathematics. “Although a large number of students applied for revaluation of physics paper, the marks have not increased significantly for most students,” said Juby Paul, association secretary. At Naipunya Public School, Thrikkakara, 225 students appeared for the examination, of whom 95 opted for revaluation.
Of these, 87 students received improved marks. “One of our students received an additional 24 marks through the revaluation process, with overall percentage increasing from 75% to 80.2%. The revised scores even resulted in a change in the school topper,” principal Boby Joseph said. Priya C Pillai, principal of Chinmaya Vidyalaya, Tripunithura, said most students were satisfied with the revised results. “The scores improved the most in English. The increase varied from student to student, but they are happy with the outcome.
Those who did not opt for revaluation are now saying they regret the decision,” she said. The number of revaluation requests from students in city schools rose nearly three times that of previous years. Officials attributed the sharp increase to issues associated with on-screen marking (OSM) system, with mathematics and physics accounting for the highest number of applications. Across the country, more than 1.6 lakh candidates submitted requests to CBSE for answer book verification and re-evaluation.
