CBSE Class XII Results 2026: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) declared the Class 12 results on Tuesday, recording an overall pass percentage of 85.20%, lower than last year’s 88.39%. As concerns grow over the declining pass rate, subject-wise data released by the board showed where students struggled the most in securing full marks.

According to the CBSE’s “Mark 100 Subject Wise List", several mainstream subjects witnessed low numbers of students scoring a perfect 100.

Among core academic subjects, Mathematics emerged as one of the toughest papers this year. Only 1,283 students secured full marks in Mathematics, while Physics saw just 96 students scoring 100 out of 100. Chemistry recorded 1,061 perfect scores, significantly lower compared to subjects considered relatively scoring.

Economics too appeared challenging, with only 35 students managing a perfect score. In Political Science, 725 students scored full marks, while History saw 409 perfect scorers.

English Core, one of the highest-enrolment subjects, had only 2,401 students scoring 100 despite lakhs taking the paper. Computer Science saw 994 students with full marks, while Business Studies and Accountancy recorded 1,133 and 1,437 perfect scores respectively.

Artificial Intelligence emerged as one of the highest-scoring skill subjects, with 3,326 students securing full marks. Psychology also saw a strong performance with 2,533 students scoring 100. Yoga recorded 2,013 perfect scorers.

As per educationists, subjects like Physics, Mathematics and Economics typically witness lower perfect-score counts because of lengthy papers, application-based questions and stricter evaluation patterns.

“The board has increasingly shifted towards competency and analytical questions. Subjects requiring numerical accuracy and conceptual clarity naturally see fewer full scorers," a senior CBSE school teacher said.

The data also highlights the growing popularity of skill-based and interdisciplinary subjects. Entrepreneurship saw 359 students scoring full marks, while Informatics Practices had 1,143 perfect scorers.

While the board has not officially termed the exams tougher, experts and education analysts quoted in multiple reports point to a combination of stricter assessment, competency-based questions, and the gradual end of post-pandemic scoring leniency.

This year, 17,80,365 students registered for the CBSE Class 12 examinations, of which 17,68,968 appeared and 15,07,109 passed. The overall pass percentage dropped by 3.19 percentage points from last year, continuing a gradual decline from the 87.98% recorded in 2024.
