The Thiruvananthapuram region of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has bounced back to the top among various regions of the board in the Class 12 examinations with a stellar result.

The region, comprising Kerala and Lakshadweep, registered a pass percentage of 95.62. The pass percentage last year was 99.32.

This year, the Chennai region was in second position with a pass percentage of 93.84%, followed by Bengaluru with 93.19%. The Vijayawada region that was the topper last year slipped to fourth with 92.77% results.

As many as 42,852 (20,745 boys and 22,107 girls) students had sat for the exams from the Thiruvananthapuram region. Of them, 40,973 (19,481 boys and 21,492) passed. The pass percentage of boys and girls was 93.91 and 97.22.

Students from 699 schools (697 in Kerala and two in Lakshadweep) sat for the exam in 245 centres.

Of the 583 children with special needs, 581 passed.

As many as 1,449 students (3.38%) were placed in compartment.

No merit list has been declared by the CBSE to avoid unhealthy competition among the students. Supplementary examinations will be conducted on July 15.
