Uttarkashi: Chief of defence staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan on Thursday visited the border region of Harsil in Uttarakhand and laid the foundation stone for a cultural and heritage centre.
The move is part of efforts to preserve the cultural heritage of Garhwal region, safeguarding local history and promoting tourism.District magistrate Prashant Arya informed the CDS about ongoing development schemes and administrative activities in the region. General Chauhan interacted with people residing under the Vibrant Villages Programme and lauded their role in nation-building. He emphasised that empowerment of border areas is essential for both the security and development of the country.The CDS also met troops deployed in the region and commended their dedication, valour and operational readiness amidst challenging geographical terrain and adverse weather conditions. He also visited Bagori village, where he met residents and appreciated their contribution toward keeping the border villages vibrant and alive. He proceeded towards Mukhwa village where he offered special prayers at the local temple.
