Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) of India, Gyanesh Kumar, on Wednesday extended his gratitude to the eligible electorates of Bihar for their active involvement in the recent initiative aimed revising state’s voter list.

“I thank all eligible electors of Bihar for actively participating in the much needed cleaning the electoral rolls," Gyanesh Kumar said.

The electoral roll revision campaign, launched earlier this year by the Election Commission of India (ECI), is aimed at identifying and eliminating duplicate, deceased, or ineligible voters ahead of the 2025 Bihar assembly elections.

The electoral roll revision drive is also focused at ensuring that new eligible voters are properly enrolled.

Now, state voters have only 10 days left to submit their enumeration forms in as the ECI conducts its Special Intensive Revision. According to the ECI, 86.32 per cent of all forms have been submitted across the state so far. With this, only 7.2 million voter enumeration forms remain to be collected.

As per reports, over 35 lakh names may be deleted from voter list in the state. Media reports suggest eastern Bihar may see the highest voter shift.

This revision can potentially impact dozens of seats ahead of the upcoming elections. The scale and timing of the names’ removal, just months before elections, could impact closely-contested seats.

The ECI decided to overhaul Bihar’s electoral rolls on June 24, mandating millions of electorates registered since 2003 to prove their citizenship, identity, and residency again, quickly. They must provide new evidence to vote. Some who enrolled before 2003 also need to produce evidence.
