Celebratory firing at wedding kills bride’s maternal uncle in Muzaffarpur

Patna: A wedding at Bhatauna village under Karja police station area of Muzaffarpur turned tragic late Wednesday night when the bride’s maternal uncle was shot dead. The victim had come to attend his niece’s marriage.

The deceased was identified as Ranjeet Sahni, 30, a resident of Taraura village under Mushahri police station area.According to police, the wedding of Nitish Sahni’s daughter was underway when the firing occurred. The house was abuzz with excitement as preparations were underway to welcome the wedding procession and perform the rituals. While preparations for the dwar pooja were in progress, celebratory firing suddenly took place.

During this, a bullet struck Ranjeet Sahni.Panic spread at the venue after the gunshot. The attackers fled under the cover of darkness before people could react. Villagers rushed Ranjeet to help, but he died on the spot.Rural SP Rajesh Singh Prabhakar and Saraiya SDPO Abhijeet Kaur reached the spot after being informed. Karja police inspected the site and recovered an empty cartridge. “Police are investing all angles, including old rivalry.

Raids are on to identify and arrest the accused,” the police official said.SDPO Abhijeet Kaur said a man attending the wedding died of a gunshot wound. “We are probing whether it was celebratory firing or a planned murder. An FSL team also collected samples from the spot. Initial findings suggest Ranjeet was shot while asleep,” she said.
