The government on Tuesday extended the zero customs duty on imports of about 40 critical petrochemical products till July 15 with the aim to ensure supply stability amid disruptions due to conflict in West Asia.

Initially, the full customs duty exemption, introduced on April 2, was brought as a “temporary and targeted relief", meant to expire on June 30.

In the notification issued on Tuesday, the Finance Minister announced the extention of the exemption to 15 more days. According to PTI, the import duty exemption was intended to benefit sectors dependent on petrochemical feedstock and intermediates, such as plastics, packaging, textiles, pharmaceuticals, chemicals, automotive components and other manufacturing segments.
