The allocation to Andhra Pradesh under the PM-Schools for Rising India (PM-SHRI) scheme has seen a notable increase in the financial years 2024–25 and 2025–26 compared to 2023–24, according to a release from the State Education Department.
The department cited information received by TDP MPs G.M. Harish Balayogi and Putta Mahesh Kumar, who had raised questions in the Lok Sabha on August 4 regarding the district-wise details of PM-SHRI schools established in Andhra Pradesh and the funds allocated over the past three years.
In response, Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary stated that Andhra Pradesh had been sanctioned an outlay of ₹354.85 crore in 2023–24, including a Central share of ₹212.91 crore. The sanctioned outlay rose significantly to ₹782.39 crore in 2024–25, with the Centre contributing ₹469.43 crore. For the current financial year, 2025–26, the outlay stands at ₹555.76 crore, of which ₹333.46 crore is the Central share, as per official information published on the Lok Sabha website.
So far, a total of 935 schools in Andhra Pradesh have been selected under the PM-SHRI scheme. The MPs had also sought specific information regarding Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema and Eluru districts. The Centre informed that 37 schools have been selected in Eluru district and 28 in Konaseema.
The State Education Department stated that the expansion of the scheme aims to transform existing schools into model institutions equipped with modern infrastructure, smart classrooms, and a focus on outcome-oriented learning.
