The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has directed officials to seek a detailed explanation from Meta after a BBC investigation found that Instagram was running advertisements promoting child sexual abuse material (CSAM) in India, sources said on Friday.

Sources said the move comes after concerns were raised over the circulation of such content through paid promotions on the platform.

According to the BBC investigation, Instagram was found to be displaying paid ads that allegedly promoted CSAM-related material in India.
